Can Christians Be Cursed Through Witchcraft?

Many Christian leaders teach that believers can never come under a curse sent by witchcraft. They often refer to the account of when Balaam and Balak would have cursed Israel but failed because Israel was in right standing with God. Nevertheless, these same Bible teachers can neither deny nor explain real life occurrences of Christians being affected by curses sent through witchcraft. Learn what the Bible says on this subject. Straight-forward and scripturally accurate answers are provided for readers who may also test their knowledge by completing the questionnaire at the end.

God's Blessing, A Sign Of Salvation?

All too often, an individual's salvation is thought to be secured based on the belief that God's goodness, blessing and provision are a sure sign that one is saved and in right standing with the Lord. Not only is such a doctrine contrary to scripture, it also raises questions that can neither be answered by logic nor by biblical scripture.

If God's goodness and protection are a sign of one's salvation, then will it be said that when babies and young children suffer need, are neglected, abused and murdered, that they are in wrong standing with him? Anti-biblical belief will present problems when trying to answer even the simplest of questions about God and his word.

Scripture can't be any clearer that nothing but faith in Christ amounts to salvation. Faith itself is not a simple belief that God exists; true faith compels obedience to the Lord. The New Testament scripture of Romans 10:16 reads, "but they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?" The prophet Esaias is plainly stating that had the people believed the report (gospel) they would have been obedient. Therefore, if one deliberately persists in sin (disobedience), he demonstrates that he has not believed the gospel. The first commandment of the gospel is to love the Lord with all of one's strength and mind (Mark 12:29 - 30). This is the first commandment because this kind of love plays an essential role in serving and obeying God. This truth is stressed throughout the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation and is probably summed up best in the solemn statement of the scripture of 1 Corinthians 16:22 which says, "if any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema (accursed)...."

Each person knows whether he truly loves the Lord or not. He knows whether he has placed career, a love for money, romance, favor with others, or anything else above God. Sadly, many of such people choose to evaluate their "love" for God (right standing) based on the good things they receive from him. They would do well to remember that the Bible reminds man that God's goodness and provision falls on believers as well as unbelievers.

Matthew 5:45 says, "...your Father which is in heaven, for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust."
