Global Peace: What Does the Christian Bible Say?
Contrary to what so many people believe, that Christ was sent to earth to establish global peace, that is not what the word of God teaches. We read, "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came NOT to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance (war) against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a man's foes (enemies) shall be they of his own household." (Matthew 10:34-36).
Global peace in this present world will never be a reality because, many people, Jew and Gentile, reject Jesus as their Lord and Savior. The sword that Jesus sent in the earth is the persecution of spiritual Israel, comprised of natural Jews who are the descendents of Abraham, and Gentiles who are not descended from Abraham, but who are believers in Jesus.
Not only do we have the scripture of Matthew that lets us know that Jesus' first coming sent a sword, not global peace, we also have further warnings from Christ. He could not have been plainer in teaching that his gospel is highly controversial. Jesus said to the Jews, "They shall put you out of the synagogues" (St. John 16:2).
Jews worship in synagogues. We have the case of Jews putting other Jews out of the synagogue. Jesus, in the same scripture, goes on to say, "...Yea, the time cometh, that whosoever (anyone) killeth you will think that he doeth God service" (St. John 16:2).
Christ lets his disciples know that it is not global peace that is coming in this present earth, rather it is persecution. Christians are violently persecuted in China, North Korea, Pakistan, the Sudan, etc.
Under grace and the New Testament, Israel is now comprised of both natural Jews and Gentiles who are true followers of the Lord Jesus. because to be a Jew denotes the condition of a circumcised (repentant/clean) heart towards God. Likewise, to be a "Gentile" denotes the condition of an uncircumcised (unrepentant/unclean) heart towards God, whether the person be Jew or Gentile in the flesh. Under the New Covenant, Gentiles in the flesh, who are true servants of the Lord Jesus, are Jews in the spirit and Jews in the flesh, who willfully refuse to obey the Lord, are Jews only in the flesh, but not necessarily in the spirit (Romans 2:28-29).
Perpetual global peace will be established when Jesus returns to set up his peaceable kingdom. Again, we should not confuse his first coming with his second. Greater persecution of true followers of Christ is associated with the first, while global peace is part of what is associated with the second.
