How to Choose a Spanish English Translator

buenaSuerte.jpg

Choosing a Spanish English translator can be a daunting task, especially if you have never worked with one. However, if it is imperative that your book, website, blog, article, or whatever your work may be, gets translated into or from the Spanish or English language, it's not a good idea to keep putting it off. Here are some questions to which you might do well to get answers before hiring a Spanish English translator:

1. What is the native language/s of the translator? Yes, many people in the world have more than one mother tongue. If your material is to be translated from Spanish into English, it is strongly advised to work with a translator whose native tongue is English. If, however, the material is to be translated from English into Spanish, we recommend a translator whose native language is Spanish. If the person who will be doing the translation speaks both Spanish and English as native languages, great! This helps to ensure that no part of the translated work sounds like a translated work, which tends to have sentences that sound strange to native speakers. The Spanish English translators of HeavenlyManna.net work only with their native tongue/s which are these two languages.

2. How many years of experience does the Spanish English translator have? This is very important, because only real-world experience truly trains a person in his or her profession. Actual experience is the best teacher and trainer, as it has always been. This is why apprenticeship was so prevalent before the establishment of expensive institutions whose educational programs have never been able to prepare a person for his or her profession like working as an apprentice. Every Spanish English translator with Heavenly Manna has at least ten years of real-world experience. And, he or she has earned the professional reference of HeavenlyManna.net where much of his or her work is published.

3. What is the educational level of the translator? While it might seem more important to simply focus on the linguistic skills, level of education can play an important role in the professionalism of a translation. Generally, the vocabulary of a person with a college degree is considerably broader than that of someone without a degree. Also, such a person tends to have stronger writing skills having studied grammar, punctuation, and the redaction of professional documents and papers. Every Spanish English translator of Heavenly Manna holds at least an associate degree from an accredited college or university.

4. What type of customer service skills does the translator have? Yes, this is important, because you have to interact with him or her. Social skills play a part in all business transactions just like they do in informal circles. Most people want to work with a Spanish English translator who knows how to be polite, courteous, and respectful. Providing good customer service goes beyond simply providing an accurate and professional translation. It also requires meeting deadlines, answering customer questions and concerns, and keeping in close contact throughout the project. If email is the only method of contact, both parties would do well to provide two email addresses from different domains to ensure that there is no break in communication. Various domains include: Yahoo.com, Gmail.com, Juno.com, etc. The Spanish English translators of Heavenly Manna consistently deliver the highest level of customer service.

5. Where does the Spanish English translator live? It is almost always a good idea to work with translators who live in countries where the language/s with which they work is/are spoken. Why? Because trends are constantly changing, which affects vocabulary. Those who live within the nation are the first ones to be aware of the changes in the language. Perhaps this tip is best illustrated with a real-world example. The phrase "with a twist" as in, "It is a mystery with a twist", is widely understood in Argentina, at least around the Buenos Aires area. However, it might not be understood in other Spanish-speaking nations such as Spain. Therefore, the translator will need to perhaps put the Spanish equivalent in parenthesis if he or she chooses to use "with a twist", which means, "con un toque particular" in Spanish. The Spanish English translators of Heavenly Manna live in various nations where these languages are spoken. And, they keep updated regarding trends and borrowed words and phrases that affect translation.

There certainly are other considerations that you might need to keep in mind. However, these tips for choosing a Spanish English translator tend to be applicable "across the board". If you have a project that you need to be translated from or into Spanish/English, let us know about it by sending us a private message through the contact form at the very bottom of this content. Your message will go directly to a translator who will get back with you promptly. Please tell us what the subject matter is, the approximate number of words, and the time frame in which the translation must be completed. Thank you for your interest in working with us!
