Calvina, the young battered wife of Duane, is in desperate need of a new start in life. Will her jealous husband, the mad man with whom she had been unequally yoked, prove too much to ever hope for a chance of staying together--a chance to fix her troubled marriage?
We encourage you to read the two main character profiles before reading the first chapter. We can be so wrong in the strong initial opinions we form of people, which we see in The Beauty Of Staying Together (originally published under the title: Detour), a story based on true events. The Bible is a record of some of the miracles God performed in both the Old and New Testaments. In almost every one of them, he used one of his servants. Moses was used by him in the signs and wonders he worked in Egypt, and Jesus and his apostles performed many miracles.
The miracles, signs, and wonders that God performed and still performs were and are for the saving of his people and the display of his power to the heathen. In Exodus 9:16 God said to Moses, "and in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up for to shew in thee my power and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth."
Most Christians have come to view the servants of the Lord used in the working of his miracles, as Great saints because of God's use of them. While there's nothing wrong with this thought, it has, unfortunately, given rise to some wrong perspectives concerning greatness according to God.
Although true believers believe all of God's word and know that he's still the worker of miracles, they must guard against associating miracles with great servitude.
The greatest prophet among those that announced and were types and shadows of the Lord Jesus, performed no miracle. Jesus said, "verily I say unto you, among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist..." (Matthew 11:11).
"And many resorted unto him, and said, John did no miracle, but all things that John spake of this man were true. And many believed on him there" (St. John 10:41-42).
