Calvina, the young battered wife of Duane, is in desperate need of a new start in life. Will her jealous husband, the mad man with whom she had been unequally yoked, prove too much to ever hope for a chance of staying together--a chance to fix her troubled marriage?
We encourage you to read the two main character profiles before reading the first chapter. Envy is still referred to as the green-eyed monster for good reason because when it is harbored, it can and often does inspire the carrying out of monstrous deeds against someone else. Although jealousy can and does lead to hatred and violence against others in the case of infidelity, it isn't usually aligned with envying someone for what they have. Many people who allow jealously to set up in them are not always quick to be envious of the material goods another person might have, but rather to become angry at intangible "goods" such as the prized possession of genuine peace of mind, will power, self-discipline, self-confidence, the ability to enjoy simple things in life, and a belief in Christian-like morals.
This is why there are numerous people who envy others who have much less in material goods than they do. Although a person should not be afraid of someone who is jealous of him, there is the need to be fully aware of just how intense hatred that was born out of jealousy can be; it has provoked attacks of all kinds including those against a person's reputation, attempts to place a curse on someone, and even murder in cold blood. Life is far from perfect for most of Earth's inhabitants; therefore, people understandably question why certain bad things happened to them and why certain good things seem to avoid them and cling to the one or ones they envy. Wondering should not, however, lead to jealousy which is a wide open door to hatred.
Someone once said that one of the meanest thoughts someone can have towards another individual involve desire to see his or her downfall and unhappiness in life just because they appear to have what the one who's jealous doesn't. Although those thoughts may come depending on the personality of the person, they don't have to be accepted and fed until they are a green-eyed monster. They must be resisted and replaced with a genuine desire to have a pure heart towards others who might just be the answer to some of the problems the one who's jealous is having. The Bible says, "A sound heart is the life of the flesh, but envy is rottenness of the bones" (KJV, Proverbs 14:30). It also instructs, "Resist the devil and he will flee from you" (James 4:7).
