Scripture of The Day - 1 John 4:1
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world
Unpopular Scripture from the Word of God - Part I
The famous scripture of St. John 3:16 which says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life" is still well received by many people despite the war to breed unbelief and hostility against the gospel of Jesus. There are other scriptures from the Christian Bible, the word of God, that are very unpopular because they teach truths that many people, including Christians, do not want to accept. What are some of those unpopular scriptures from the word of God?
Love Your Enemies
Jesus taught, "Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love they neighbor, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven..." (KJV, Matthew 5:43-45).
The command, "Love your enemies" is not at all well received even by those who call themselves Christians because it certainly goes against the "grain" of the sinful nature with which man is born. Nevertheless, this command of Jesus is as much the word of God as the scripture of St. John 3:16.
You Reap What You Sow
The scripture of Galatians 6:7 reminds, "Be not deceived, God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." This truth is usually expressed in simpler words: you reap what you sow; what goes around comes around; and payday is coming. However it's expressed, it says the same thing. Again, this is not a popular scripture from the word of God because many people know that they've dismissed their conscious and done things for which they will surely pay. Must Christians also reap what they've sown? The scripture of Galatians 6:7 does not say that anyone is exempt from being subject to this law. Christians who think that this word of God is not to them, deceive themselves. Scripture warned, "Be not deceived," in other words, don't close your eyes to the truth.
Don't Mention the Lake of Fire!
The word of God on hell fire and damnation is virtually never preached anymore in Christian churches or by Christians outside of the church. The popular and modern way of winning people to Christ is to preach a one-sided gospel of
Jesus that emphasizes nothing but the
love of God. Many churches, however, continue to empty of members. A good number of them have fallen to the point of begging people to attend and place membership in the church. This is the situation even after the leaders have preached only the
word of God that the people want to hear. So, let's not forget that we should still read, believe, and preach the following:
"But the fearful and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers and whoremongers (fornicators), and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone..." (Revelation 21:8).
Unpopular Scripture from the Word of God - Part II
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
